Stained Glass
For years, stained glass has been one of my favorite types of decorative glass. I’ve admired it in churches and cathedrals the world over. From Prague Castle in Prague, Czech Republic, to Notre Dame in Paris, France, I’ve seen some of the most beautiful stained glass panels the world has to offer. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted a piece of stained glass to hang in front of a window to serve as decoration. Not just any piece would do, I wanted an antique piece, something with a story to tell. My mother-in-law heard me talking about it once and she passed the word on to her brother, my husbands’ uncle. I’ll tell you, I don’t think there’s anyone he doesn’t know, and because of that, he’s always acquiring some of the most amazing things. One day he popped in our home out of the blue with a piece of stained glass in hand. One small piece of the glass was chipped, but he asked me if I liked it. Obviously, I did. He told me that the glass was the only piece that had survived from a house that had been destroyed during World War II and was very old, but since I liked it, he’d have it repaired for me. He did, and it now hangs proudly in front of the plate glass window in my living room. |
