Opalescent Glass
I visited the neighborhood of my childhood recently and my mother told me I needed to see the changes made to the church I loved going to as a child. So on Sunday morning we went and I stared in awe and wonder at the opalescent glass made of Tiffany glass in the windows of the sanctuary. The older opalescent glass had been dulled by time and weather and seeing the sanctuary of my youth in all its restored beauty made me smile reminiscently. As I shook hands with the church secretary later in the morning I told her how much I admired how the Tiffany glass renewed the look of the sanctuary. She smiled and told me that the church committee had gone online and found the opalescent glass for a much lower price than what was being quoted in the neighboring city and that parishioners had stepped up and volunteered to install it. The entire church was happy with the price and the outcome of the finished project. Although I had grown up and moved around the country I always felt like this church from my childhood was still my home church. I was as proud of the new Tiffany glass as any member who regularly attended. I was home again. |
