The Art of Stained Glass is Still Around
One of my neighbors actually makes his living creating stained glass windows. He is one of a few who can create new works of art or even restore stained glass windows. Because it is not a common skill he does quite well.
He works for the only company in the area to offer stained glass restoration. They do a lot of work on the churches in our area, and outside of our area. They also create some wonderful small pieces that are sold as wall or window hangings. Because they are all hand done with quality material they can be quite costly. Even so they are often pressed to keep up with the demand. Many of the specialty gift and art stores carry their work.
I just find it interesting that there is a demand for such a specific and unusual skill. I always thought that stain glass was more of a hobby or craft than something you could make a living at. It must be because our local collage now offers a course on glass blowing and creating stain glass art.
