Since I was a little kid my mother has taught me about the excellence of Tiffany glass. My mother taught me that the term Tiffany glass describes a specific stained glass technique and style used in the manufacture of objects, including light fixtures, stain glass vases, bowls, windows and architectural details. Historically, Tiffany glass items were handmade by skilled artisans during the art nouveau period. Flora and foliage patterns are the distinguishing characteristics of these colorful Tiffany glass fixtures. There were also some Tiffany glass lamps that depicted various flying creatures such as birds and dragonflies in stylized patterns. They typically featured vibrant colors in a rainbow of colors, and look stunning even unlit. But once lit up, these Tiffany glass lamps are truly sensational in appearance. For my mother, Tiffany glass items carry so much history and beauty that just being able to buy one can be considered a bargain, because these are truly priceless works of art. Nonetheless, today one can purchase handmade reproductions of Tiffany glass lamps that are less expensive than purchasing an antique original and yet enjoy the majestic beauty they offer.
