Decorative Glass Vases |

My grandmother collected all kinds of beautiful decorative glass vases. One of my favorite childhood memories takes me to Virginia where we visited a blown glass factory. I recall taking a tour, walking in a straight line, one by one, seeing where the workers actually heated up the glass so it was a bright red then blew into it to create decorative vases, bowls and plates. The tour showed us how they cut off pieces and cooled the finished products. Then came the painting room where artists hand painted flowers or abstract designs on certain pieces. Each of these decorative glass vases was truly one of a kind.
In the living room of my grandmothers home was a display case made of the finest oak wood with beveled glass shelves and doors. The case alone was a thing of beauty. When the decorative vase were place inside it and the sun hit it just right it took my breath away. I always cherished her decorative glass vases collection as much as she did. She allowed some pieces to be out on the end tables where they could be physically admired and touched. I felt honored and very grown up when I was given permission to pick one up and look it over. To this day, I also have a love of and collect decorative glass vases. |
